The 3rd of June is World Bicycle Day. The day is commemorated to highlight the advantages of cycling. Bicycling is not only beneficial to one’s health, but it is also beneficial to the environment. There are many people out there who actually end up taking cycling as their career, and in reality, cycling is considered to be one of the high-paying careers as well.

Safe infrastructure for walking and cycling, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), is also a step toward greater health equity. The United Nations General Assembly recognized 3 June as World Bicycle Day, honouring the bicycle’s uniqueness, durability, and versatility through two centuries of use. The day will urge participants to recognize and promote the bicycle’s role in creating sustainable development, strengthening education for children and young people, promoting health, preventing diseases, facilitating social inclusion, and promoting a culture of peace, among other things.

The Assembly also applauds the activities on a national and local level as a way to improve physical and mental health, as well as to foster a bicycle culture in society.

According to the United Nations, it urges the Member States to focus on diverse development strategies and incorporate bicycling in international, regional, national, and sub-national development plans and programs.

– It urges the Member States to improve road safety and integrate it into the planning and construction of sustainable mobility and transportation infrastructure. Also, for improved health outcomes, to safeguard and enhance pedestrian safety and cycling mobility.

The day urges the Member States to adopt best practices and methods for promoting bicycles among all parts of society and organize bicycle rides on a national and local level to improve physical and mental health and well-being.

Cycling is an aerobic activity that works the heart, blood vessels, and lungs all at the same time. It will improve overall fitness by causing an increase in body temperature through riding.

As a result, World Bicycle Day promotes riding as a terrific workout that is also good for the environment and improves fitness and well-being. Hence, in the end, this day is celebrated to give importance to not just fitness, but to help people understand why cycling is a great activity.
