The Cherry Blossom Festival 2026 returns to Meghalaya on 20 and 21 November 2026 at Madan Kurkalang, Bhoirymbong, about 30 km from Shillong. Meghalaya Tourism lists both days from 02:00 PM onwards, with an international lineup that includes Khalid, Swae Lee, Nelly, Boys Like Girls, Galantis and Elliot James Reay, plus Indian artist Darshan Raval. Here is what is confirmed so far, how the venue shift matters, and how to plan around the two festival days.
Cherry Blossom Festival 2026 dates and venue
- Dates: 20 and 21 November 2026.
- Venue: Madan Kurkalang, Bhoirymbong, Meghalaya, as stated on the Meghalaya Tourism Cherry Blossom 2026 page.
- Timings: 02:00 PM onwards on both days (Meghalaya Tourism).
- Event management agency: Rockski, per the same tourism listing.
News coverage in early October said the festival was moved back to Madan Kurkalang after public demand. Treat Madan Kurkalang / Bhoirymbong as the working venue for 2026 unless tourism updates say otherwise. Build travel time from Shillong into your afternoon arrival; the published start is mid-afternoon, not a late-night-only show.
Who is performing?
Meghalaya Tourism's event page lists these international headliners: Khalid, Swae Lee, Nelly, Boys Like Girls, Galantis and Elliot James Reay. Darshan Raval is listed among the Indian artists. The page also names a long supporting bill of independent musicians, bands and DJs from Meghalaya and the wider Northeast, including acts such as Scribe, Bhayanak Maut, Gingerfeet, W.I.S.H and Jessie Lyngdoh among many others.
Day-wise set times were not fully published on the tourism page at the time of writing. The Shillong Times (28 October 2026) also reported Khalid, Nelly and Swae Lee among the headliners. Check meghalayatourism.in and the festival's own channels for stage schedules and ticket products as they are released. Artist bills at multi-stage festivals can still be revised for weather, logistics or contractual reasons, so screenshot your ticket confirmation and the latest official poster before you travel.
More than a music bill
Besides the stages, Meghalaya Tourism describes live productions, cultural showcases, local food, art installations, exhibitions and audience activities such as fashion showcases, cosplay contests, fitness challenges, mechanical bull rides, arm wrestling, beatboxing and dance. The event is timed for Meghalaya's cherry blossom season and is pitched as both a music festival and a tourism draw for visitors who want hills weather without waiting for December.
If your main interest is the trees themselves, remember that blossom timing depends on the season's weather. The festival dates are fixed; peak flowering across Shillong's neighbourhoods can run a little earlier or later than the stage weekend. Give yourself at least one daylight morning in the city if photographs of the blooms matter as much as the concerts.
How it sits next to other November plans
The Cherry Blossom weekend overlaps the closing stretch of IFFI 2026 in Goa (20 to 28 November) and comes a few days after the Wangala Golden Jubilee in Garo Hills. If you are chaining Northeast dates, Hornbill Festival 2026 follows from 1 to 10 December in Nagaland. For a wider view of winter dates, use the winter travel guide and the festival calendar for 2026-27. On the east coast in the same season, Bali Jatra 2026 runs in Cuttack from 24 November.
Trying to do both IFFI and Cherry Blossom in the same week means one long domestic hop and little recovery time. Most travellers will pick one headline event and keep the other for another year.
Planning a trip to Bhoirymbong
Getting there
Shillong is the usual base. Madan Kurkalang at Bhoirymbong is roughly a 30 km road journey from the city; allow extra time for festival traffic on both evenings. Guwahati remains the main air and rail gateway into Meghalaya, with onward road travel to Shillong. Shared cabs on the Guwahati-Shillong route are frequent; private cars help if you are carrying cabin luggage for a two-day stay.
Tickets and entry
Buy only through channels listed by Meghalaya Tourism or the named event managers. Ignore social-media forwards that ask for payment to personal accounts. Seat or zone rules can differ by ticket type; read the fine print before you travel. Keep a digital and printed copy of your ticket, and carry a government photo ID that matches the booking name if the gate asks for it.
Weather and what to carry
Late November evenings around Shillong are cool and can turn damp. Carry a warm layer, rain protection, ear protection for loud stages, comfortable shoes for grass or uneven ground, and a power bank. Agree on a meeting point with your group; mobile data can slow down when crowds peak.
Stay and food
Hotels in Shillong and rooms closer to Bhoirymbong book out around the festival. If you stay in the city, plan your return transport before the last acts finish. Festival food stalls are part of the draw; carry some cash as a backup even if UPI is widely used.
Safety and crowd tips
Large open-air concerts mean bag checks, queues and limited re-entry rules on some ticket types. Travel light, keep valuables zipped, and decide in advance who holds the tickets. If you are bringing teenagers, agree on a curfew and a phone check-in time. For drivers, park only in designated lots; roadside parking near Madan Kurkalang can block emergency access and draw fines.
