Tulsi plant decorated with diyas for a Tulsi Vivah ceremony

Dev Uthani Ekadashi 2026 falls on Friday, 20 November 2026, and Tulsi Vivah follows on Saturday, 21 November 2026, according to Drik Panchang. The day marks Lord Vishnu waking from his yogic sleep and the end of Chaturmas, which is why the wedding season restarts right after it. One detail catches many people out this year: the parana, or fast-breaking window, on 21 November falls in the afternoon, not the morning.

Dev Uthani Ekadashi 2026 date and parana time

The day is also called Prabodhini Ekadashi and Devutthana Ekadashi. Drik Panchang gives these timings for New Delhi:

Event Date and time
Dev Uthani Ekadashi fast Friday, 20 November 2026
Ekadashi tithi begins 7:15 AM, 20 November
Ekadashi tithi ends 6:31 AM, 21 November
Hari Vasara ends 12:07 PM, 21 November
Parana (break the fast) 1:11 PM to 3:18 PM, 21 November
Gauna (second-day) Ekadashi Saturday, 21 November; parana 6:49 AM to 8:56 AM on 22 November

Why the parana is in the afternoon

Drik Panchang sets out the rules. Parana should be done within Dwadashi tithi, but not during Hari Vasara, which is the first quarter of Dwadashi. The preferred time is Pratahkal (early morning), and Madhyahna (midday) should be avoided. In 2026, Hari Vasara on 21 November runs until 12:07 PM in New Delhi, so the morning window is not available and the parana moves to after Madhyahna, from 1:11 PM.

Which day should you fast?

When Ekadashi spans two days, Drik Panchang advises that Smartha householders with families fast on the first day, 20 November. The second day, Gauna Ekadashi on 21 November, is suggested for sanyasis, widows and those seeking moksha, and Drik notes that it coincides with the Vaishnava Ekadashi. If your family follows ISKCON or another Vaishnava calendar, check that calendar’s date.

What Dev Uthani Ekadashi means

Dev Uthani Ekadashi closes the four-month period that began on Devshayani Ekadashi, which Drik Panchang dates to 25 July 2026. During this period, Chaturmas, Lord Vishnu is believed to be in yogic sleep, and auspicious events such as weddings are traditionally put on hold. On Prabodhini Ekadashi he is said to wake, which is what “Dev Uthani” (the god rising) refers to.

Drik Panchang’s Prabodhini Ekadashi Vrat Katha is based on a dialogue between Devarshi Narada and Lord Brahma, and describes the merit of worshipping Vishnu with flowers such as kadamba, ketaki, bakula, ashoka and kaner. Recitation of the 108 and 1,000 names of Vishnu is common on Ekadashi.

Tulsi Vivah 2026 date

Drik Panchang lists Tulsi Vivah 2026 on Saturday, 21 November 2026, with Dwadashi tithi running from 6:31 AM on 21 November to 4:56 AM on 22 November (New Delhi).

Tulsi Vivah is the ceremonial marriage of the Tulsi plant, revered as Goddess Tulsi (Vrinda), to Lord Vishnu, often represented by the Shaligram stone, or to Lord Krishna. Drik Panchang notes that the Padma Purana places it on Kartik Shukla Navami, while other texts treat the five days from Prabodhini Ekadashi to Kartik Purnima as especially auspicious for it. That five-day window ends with Kartik Purnima, the night of Dev Deepawali in Varanasi.

How Tulsi Vivah is celebrated

  • Braj region: In Vrindavan, Mathura and the rest of Braj, devotees fast through the day and hold the wedding in the evening, with rituals such as haldi, mehendi, jaimala, pheras and a baraat, as in a real wedding.
  • Maharashtra: A white cloth called the antahpata is held between Tulsi and Vishnu while the priest recites wedding mantras, including the Mangalashtaka. Akshata (rice with vermilion) is then showered on the couple and the cloth is removed.
  • Saunja, Bihar: At Prabhu Dham, the whole village celebrates for three days, from Ekadashi to Trayodashi, ending with the divine wedding and a Chhappan Bhog of 56 offerings.

Drik Panchang adds that the expenses of the ceremony are typically borne by a couple without a daughter or children.

Wedding muhurats after Dev Uthani 2026

The Drik Panchang vivah muhurat calendar for New Delhi shows marriage dates blocked by Chaturmas until 19 November, with 20 November partly overlapping it. After that, it lists four auspicious marriage dates in November 2026:

  • Saturday, 21 November
  • Tuesday, 24 November (muhurat from 11:25 PM into 25 November)
  • Wednesday, 25 November
  • Thursday, 26 November

December 2026 has seven auspicious days on the same calendar. Muhurats are location-specific, so families should confirm with their own priest or the Drik Panchang page for their city.
